Advisory Board Crystals Makes Transcendental Clothing for the Spiritually Connected

One way to describe Advisory Board Crystals, the California brand by Remington Guest and Heather Haber, is spiritually serendipitous. The couple met while sharing an Uber Pool ride in Los Angeles two years ago, and ended up at the same party later that night. “Truly divine timing in practice,” says Guest. The universe has been conspiring in magical ways for them ever since. “On one of our first ‘dates,’ he walked me into a crystal shop to buy me a lepidolite. From there, we knew crystals were a part of our love story,” adds Haber. Before they started Abc., as they shorthand it, the pair held positions at Band of Outsiders. Eventually, they just couldn’t not do their own thing. “In just a few months, we had already come up with the concept, the Instagram, the website, and future plans all in the works,” says Haber.

Up until now, Abc. has existed as a series of one-off projects and collaborations. The brand began with some truly groovy tie-dye shirts made in collaboration with Colette, Bergdorf Goodman, and menswear resale site Grailed. “The first shirt we ever did was representative of a rose quartz. The only way we could hit that visual was through a sort of dye process,” says Guest. From there, the tie-dye quickly became a brand signature that represented the mystery of crystals, but also the joys of getting dressed. “When I went to get dressed each day, today still, I want to wear tie-dye. We created our own tie-dye process. It’s similar to painting. We also utilize crystal-infused dyes that we create in our studio.”

Guest and Haber are as devoted to crystals as they are to fashion; they tell you the properties of amethyst, say, in the same breath that they rattle off the qualities of their favorite Nike sneakers. With Abc., they’re hoping to distance the stones from their kooky roots and bring them to a new generation of believers. “The visual and physical aspects alone are fascinating enough,” says Haber, “but when you add in the aspect of metaphysical properties and the infinite mystery that crystals embody, it makes them the most interesting subjects in the tangible world. I love crystals of all kind, including Swarovski, actually.”

Tomorrow, Advisory Board Crystals will launch their second collection, an exploration of spatial themes and emotional bliss. “Romantic” is how they both describe it, and with tees that read Soulmate Specialist, you can’t disagree. But like all things Abc., the latest offering has layers. The lookbook stars artist Jim Krantz, the photographer behind the iconic photograph of the Marlboro man that was reappropriated by Richard Prince. The images were shot at California’s Major Mount Wilson observatory, itself a sort of a temple to the intergalactic, by Guest and Haber on their iPhones and showcase their now range of printed tees and floral trousers. “When people look at the brand today, I’m sure most would say streetwear. But the plan we have is something else. We have a project with the New Museum in the works, amongst others that will begin to reveal the true vision of Abc.,” says Guest. When pressed as to what other projects are in the pipeline, however, the pair remains mum, emailing back—what else!—an emoji of a crystal ball.
