Kim Kardashian West Tests Out Next Season’s Trickiest Evening Trend

Kim Kardashian West appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show last night to promote her newly released KKW Fragrance, before heading to the Bumble Bizz launch party in Los Angeles. For her TV appearance, Kardashian West took a page out of younger sister Kendall Jenner’s style playbook. Kardashian West channeled her inner Cher and donned Ralph Lauren’s beaded minidress. The original dress was paired with a glen plaid puffer, but Kardashian West kept things bare to highlight her physique. The beauty entrepreneur grounded her first look with a naked shoe for a leg lengthening effect.

To attend the launch, Kardashian West shrugged off her party dress for a tailored topper and shorts, ditching the shirt but accessorizing with a Yeezy gold medallion. While Kardashian West tested bike shorts earlier this year with more casual pieces in San Francisco, yesterday proved how sleek and sophisticated the messenger-friendly staple can be when paired with black tie.

“Having to Do This on Your Own Would Be Horrible”—7 Fashion Duos on the Rewards of Collaboration

In fashion, two is better than one. Look around: H&M is launching the collection Erdem Moralioglu designed for the fast fashion giant tomorrow in L.A. Earlier this year, we couldn’t stop talking about Louis Vuitton and Supreme. And don’t forget the 18 collabs Vetements did for its Spring 2017 show. Collaboration has become such a buzzword, in fact, Lou Stoppard of SHOWstudio has written a book on the subject; Fashion Together, published by Rizzoli, was released today.

Collaboration, Stoppard points out, isn’t a 21st-century phenomenon, but it has seemed to accelerate in the last decade, a fact that she chalks up to the industry’s fast pace. In the book, she quotes Rolf Snoeren of Viktor & Rolf, who said, “Having to do this on your own would be horrible. It’s a gift to be able to do it together.” As she watched the list of fashion partnerships grow, she started asking herself: “Who has the control? How is power balanced? Are there issues over ownership?” She came to the conclusion that collaborations “rely on some magic special ingredient. It’s a bit like romantic relationships really, it just works or it doesn’t.”

Stoppard’s first criteria for entry was that the relationship be unusual. “It would have been very easy to do a whole book just based on designers and their stylists or designers and their ‘muses,’ ” Stoppard says, “but I felt like that would have been too expected and maybe tired as a concept.” The second criteria was scoring in-person interviews with the collaborators together. That, she admits, was a bit like herding cats, and in the case of Shaun Leane and the late Alexander McQueen, it wasn’t even possible, but overall she was pleased by how much time her subjects gave her. “I think it’s a credit to how passionately everyone feels about the importance of collaboration.”

Fashion Together is a stuffed full of photographs, ephemera, and some of the most candid designer interviews you’ll read anywhere. “People were very willing to share their stories.”

No One Wore the Tommy Look Better Than EXO’s Chanyeol

The theme of Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall 2017 show may have been rock circus, but the most dynamic presence in the front row was a pop superstar. South Korean boy band member Park Chan-yeol (aka Chanyeol) stole the spotlight the moment he arrived, gaining the attention of photographers and countless fans who lined up to snap pictures of him with their iPhones. A singer, rapper, and member of K-pop juggernaut EXO, Chanyeol is a superstar in Asia and has the chic personal style to show for it. Where other celebrities may go with outlandish runway looks or clothes designed to get attention, Chanyeol often plays it cool, opting for a classic wardrobe that speaks to his status as a heartthrob.

Though he has experimented with wild hair colors and flashier looks in the past, Chanyeol’s wardrobe has become more understated of late. His Tommy look of a plaid shirt, white tee, and color-blocked windbreaker was fashionable without trying hard, and it’s that kind of effortlessness that he cultivates off-duty. Whether he’s breezing through an airport in an oversize trench coat and ripped jeans, or donning a Vetements bomber jacket, he’s the rare pop star who lets his attitude shine rather than his latest runway acquisitions—all of which makes him an ideal representative for all things Tommy.

See him headed into Heathrow in one of the brand’s gray sweatshirts and a pair of tailored trousers, or walking around London in a fuzzy blue and red fleece with a ’90s vibe. Chanyeol embodied the ease Hilfiger is known for, and provided the brand with something everyone can appreciate—effortless casual style.

Pink Dedicates Her Powerful VMAs Speech About Beauty and Body Image to Her Daughter

Tonight at 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, Pink accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award—previous winners include The Beatles, David Bowie, Kanye West, Beyoncé, and most recently, Rihanna—for her inimitable impact on music, pop culture, and philanthropy. An honor she didn't take lightly, after performing a roaring medley of her most famous hits, the singer used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to speak candidly about body image and self-love, recalling a conversation she had with her 6-year-old daughter, Willow Sage Hart.

"Recently I was driving my daughter to school, and she said to me, out of the blue, ‘I'm the ugliest girl I know. I look like a boy with long hair,'" she explained. Bewildered at the admission, she came back to Willow with a PowerPoint presentation spotlighting gender-bending icons, such as Prince, Annie Lenox, and Freddie Mercury, explaining to her that they "live their truth, are probably made fun of everyday of their life, and carry on, and wave their flag, and inspire the rest of us." Underlining the fact that she herself doesn't fit society's narrow feminine ideals and has been criticized throughout her career for being too masculine, Pink posed four powerful, patriarchy-smashing questions. "I said to her, 'Do you see me growing my hair?' She said, 'No, mama.' 'Do you see me changing my body?' 'No, mama.' 'Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?' 'No, mama.' 'Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?' 'Yes, mama.'" And that's how it's done.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Best Accessory Is Clearly Her Dog Pippi

This month, Jennifer Lawrence makes her second appearance on the September cover of Vogue. In the new issue, the 26-year-old actress opens up to Jason Gay about her professional as well her personal life, including two very special relationships: the romantic one she has with director Darren Aronofsky and the rather maternal one she has with her beloved dog Pippi. Lawrence constantly frets about Pippi’s welfare, and specifically whether the dog’s small size might make him susceptible to predators at her home in Los Angeles (where Lawrence has hung an oil portrait of the precious pooch). “Every 20 minutes I have a heart attack,” Lawrence admits in the interview. “I’m going to be a great mother.”

Dog ownership, despite its dubious stresses, has been an opportunity for Lawrence to make quite a few memorable style statements. The trick often starts from the ground up with practical shoes that toe the line between form and function. For instance, Lawrence wore suede Aquazzura espadrilles to dress up a pair of simple skinnies and a white tank while running errands with Pippi. On another occasion, she chose Alexander Wang grommet sandals to move a creamy slip dress to a directional new place—the ultimate piece to take its wearer from day to night (or rather the bedroom to the dog park) with ease.

Lawrence tends to gravitate toward tonal hues that lend even the most lo-fi of basics some polish. Look at the Alberta Ferretti outwear with the cozy shearling lining that mimics Pippi’s own fur coat for proof. She also packs in extra style points with her statement bags. Unlike Pippi, who is often transported in a traditional travel carrier, Lawrence has a rotating collection of bags—a textured Chloé shoulder bag, a studded Valentino tote, and a fold-over Victoria Beckham clutch among them. All leave her room to stow Pippi’s preferred essentials, such as the natty plaid bow tie he wore while catching a flight out of Los Angeles. After all, who says owners and their pets can’t have a shared love that extends to accessorizing?

Find these and more of Lawrence’s best fashion moments with her dog Pippi in the slideshow above.

Seasonal Shopping Slump? 6 Chic Summer Staples to Take Into Fall

Getting dressed in the morning becomes a little more daunting in August. Summer is winding down, but cooler temperatures have yet to set in. You can’t break out your heavy knits or boots, but the dresses and blouses you purchased in June leave you uninspired. Even Vogue editors hit the same late-summer slump. As Assistant Market Editor Madeline Fass puts it, “How am I supposed to shop for other people when I’m not even excited to shop for myself right now?” Fortunately, there is a solution for your inter-seasonal woes: the summer-to-fall transitional wardrobe.

The trick is to invest in staples that can be worn on their own now, then layered in the coming months. Street style favorite Rejina Pyo makes tailored shirts you’ll come back to each season, while Poland-based designer Magda Butrym has mastered the cut-out dress in dark and moody floral prints that work equally well in summer and fall. Not a fan of dresses or skirts? Cropped trousers are always worth picking up, so is denim in darker shades, like Lorod’s cult zip-through pants, as worn by the likes of Bella Hadid and Pop artist Haley Vassar. Last but not least, tie it all together with a lightweight statement coat, tossed loosely over both shoulders. Who said shopping in August can’t be fun?
