Jennifer Lawrence’s Best Accessory Is Clearly Her Dog Pippi

This month, Jennifer Lawrence makes her second appearance on the September cover of Vogue. In the new issue, the 26-year-old actress opens up to Jason Gay about her professional as well her personal life, including two very special relationships: the romantic one she has with director Darren Aronofsky and the rather maternal one she has with her beloved dog Pippi. Lawrence constantly frets about Pippi’s welfare, and specifically whether the dog’s small size might make him susceptible to predators at her home in Los Angeles (where Lawrence has hung an oil portrait of the precious pooch). “Every 20 minutes I have a heart attack,” Lawrence admits in the interview. “I’m going to be a great mother.”

Dog ownership, despite its dubious stresses, has been an opportunity for Lawrence to make quite a few memorable style statements. The trick often starts from the ground up with practical shoes that toe the line between form and function. For instance, Lawrence wore suede Aquazzura espadrilles to dress up a pair of simple skinnies and a white tank while running errands with Pippi. On another occasion, she chose Alexander Wang grommet sandals to move a creamy slip dress to a directional new place—the ultimate piece to take its wearer from day to night (or rather the bedroom to the dog park) with ease.

Lawrence tends to gravitate toward tonal hues that lend even the most lo-fi of basics some polish. Look at the Alberta Ferretti outwear with the cozy shearling lining that mimics Pippi’s own fur coat for proof. She also packs in extra style points with her statement bags. Unlike Pippi, who is often transported in a traditional travel carrier, Lawrence has a rotating collection of bags—a textured Chloé shoulder bag, a studded Valentino tote, and a fold-over Victoria Beckham clutch among them. All leave her room to stow Pippi’s preferred essentials, such as the natty plaid bow tie he wore while catching a flight out of Los Angeles. After all, who says owners and their pets can’t have a shared love that extends to accessorizing?
